Description
(HA-3 ft.) Most popular of the Everlastings, helichrysum or strawflower is a beautiful long-lasting flower. They are 1-2” across and have a papery texture even when fresh. Easy to grow in full sun and poor to average soil. Very heat and drought tolerant. For winter bouquets and also nice as fresh-cut flowers. The flowers are a mix of all shades of white, pink, yellow, orange and scarlet. May be readily raised from seed sown in a cold frame in March, or cuttings taken off at a joint will strike in peat and sand. Bloom during July and August. For winter decoration the flowers should be gathered in a young state, as they continue to develop after being gathered. Cut in bud and hang upside down to dry. (Culture AD-GH)
