Description
80 Days | Flat broad glossy green pods measure 8″-10″ long with 4-6 beans each. Plants average 24″-36″ tall semi-bushy. Seed is greenish brown with black eye. Also called an English or Broad bean, Fava beans are cool weather crops that can be planted weeks before other, more sensitive beans. Also a strong nitrogen fixer and cover crop, Fava are good for those tired parts of your garden.
6-12 days to sprout
Fava bean seeds per packet: About 30
Fava bean seeds per 1/2 Lb: About 125
Fava bean seeds per Lb: About 250
Plant as soon as soil can be comfortably worked, spacing the rows about 4′ apart with plants 4″-6″ apart in the rows. Because of the higher cold tolerance, Fava do not fear late frosts the same way most beans do, and as such will have pods ready nearly the same time as an “early” bush bean.
