Description
82 Days | The original stock of Hale’s Best produced some very fine melons that were exceptionally well adapted to roadside market selling and for bulk hauling in trucks. They were so extremely large, however, that they were hardly as well suited to packing in crates as some of the smaller types. By critical selection we produced a uniform type of this having a distinct stripe or suture running from stem to blossom end. It is a big melon; the average weight from our seed fields being about 4 1/2 lb. each, which would mean that the melons pack nine or less to the Jumbo flat crate. Well netted between the distinct suture, practically no ribs. Flesh is thick, deep salmon, flavor sweet and of fine eating quality. 6 x 7 1/2 inches. | Heirloom Cantaloupe
70-90 Days to maturity
3-7 Days to sprout
Melon seeds per Oz: About 1,000
Melon seeds per Lb: About 16,000
Plant 1″-2″ deep, in rows 6′-8′ foot apart. Thin or transplant to a spacing of 2′-3′. Water at base of the plant every 10-14 days until cantaloupe reach softball size, moving water further from the plant at that point to protect the melons. As the melons mature, cut back watering further to increase sugar content.
