Ryegrass

Description

There are many benefits to planting ryegrass cover crops. If you want to build soil without investing much in a cover crop, consider ryegrass. A quick-growing, non-spreading bunch grass, ryegrass is a reliable, versatile performer almost anywhere, assuming adequate moisture and fertility. It does a fine job of holding soil, taking up excess nitrogen and outcompeting weeds. Ryegrass is also very common in pet mixes and pasture grasses, because of its quick growing nature, and tough roots that allow it to regrow from most damage. Perennial ryegrass is cold tolerant, and will come back in spring after a mild winter.
