Description
55 Days | Introduced in our 1902 catalog, this is one of 4 red beets in that catalog. “DETROIT DARK RED. This is an excellent beet for early planting, and can be relied upon to give excellent results as it is of fine quality and dark red color and all such beets are very good. Turnip shaped with small tops and small tap roots. Market gardeners will be well pleased if they plant heavily of these.” (Page 4, Burrell Seed Catalog 1902) An heirloom dating from over ten years before our company was born, this standard variety for shippers, truckers and canners, is the standard image for red beets. Strong tops suited to mechanical harvesting. Roots nearly globular, smooth, ox-blood red, uniform, with small tap root. Flesh dark red with indistinctive red zones.
